This is a really good point — you’re right that culture does tell men that they’re inept at parenting. I’d argue, though, that these cultural messages are largely controlled BY men, and that the notion that men are just “worse” at parenting or chores is a self-serving one. If men can say their female partners are just better at something, it’s makes it that much easier for them to avoid drudgery. But totally agree that change needs not to just come at the individual level — but the structural.
